There are many excellent books that specifically relate recent brain studies to learning.  One of the best is How Learning Works by S.A. Ambrose et al, which is a ‘must read’ for any serious educator.  For a good summary of the seven instructional principles from this book read “Random Thoughts:  How Learning Works” by Rebecca Brent and Richard M.
